105 R7100 / R7150 – It's A New Day To mark the 40th anniversary of its market launch in 1982, the 105 series is receiving its ultimate upgrade with Shimano’s electronic Di2 shifting technology. While maintaining the series’ typical price point, this makes precise shifting, perfectly tuned gear ratios, and a reliable braking system accessible to an even wider range of road cyclists. True to the tradition of its predecessors, the current 105 is also equipped with top-tier technologies—such as the wireless cockpit—and first-class features from the state-of-the-art Dura-Ace and Ultegra series, enabling riders to rediscover the road, day after day. Shimano 105 FC-R7100 Crankset Shimano’s proven hollow construction methods are also used in the current 2x12-speed version of the 105 crank to create a drivetrain component that is not only visually appealing but also lightweight yet stiff. While Hollowtech II technology in the aluminum crankarms delivers significant weight savings without compromising stability, the Hollowglide construction handles this task for the large chainring, which is also made of aluminum. Additionally, plastic ribs on the back of the chainrings contribute to the unique structural design of the 105 series. Overall, with the FC-R7100-12, road cyclists get not only an extremely lightweight but also a high-performance crank, whose durable arms ensure efficient power transfer. The crankset is completed by the thoughtfully designed chainrings, perfectly matched to the FD-R7150 front derailleur, which guarantee not only fast but also precise shifting. The goal was to produce a crank that minimizes the effort required for pedaling and enables more efficient power transfer. An exclusive forging process allows for the production of extremely lightweight crankarms that still guarantee maximum stiffness. The rigid connection of the right arm to the bottom bracket axle and its external bearing also contribute to an optimal balance between stiffness and low weight.
