SON front wheel for Brompton folding bikes SON prefers to deliver wheels completely set up, because installation of the spokes with semiradial SON XS hubs requires some experience. The wheels are equipped with SON´s XS hub dynamo, original Brompton rims and 28 spokes. The front wheels are laced and trued by hand. This and a high spoke tension guarantee a high stability and durability of the wheel. The Heart - the SON XS hub dynamo This variant of the SON XS hub dynamo is optimized for the narrow forks of Brompton folding bikes. The hub dynamo got side slots instead of the spoke holes. straightpull spokes are mounted in these slots, as they can be found in system wheels. The XS hub dynamo offers semi-radial lacing. This makes the wheel elegant and durable, because the bending moment is omitted in the spokes bow. This hub dynamo achieves an efficiency of 60% (0,7 Watts) already at a riding speed of 15 km/h. Its weight of less than 400g ensures that the bike is not heavier than a bike equipped with conventional front hub and friction wheel dynamo. Because of the low width of the flange the lateral rigidity of the wheels is smaller than with hubs with conventional geometry.
