The ZR1 hubs are the result of 2 years of development work and 58,500 test kilometers or 3,222 test hours. In order to take the hubs for the Firecrest wheels, which have already proven themselves in professional use, to the next level, ZIPP also sought the expertise of experienced engineers from the German SRAM development office in Schweinfurt. The result not only impresses with its high durability, but also with a low weight and particularly fast engagement. To ensure lasting performance, key technologies have been adopted from the premium hubs in the Cognition series, including the seal design, the bearing size and the larger dust cap behind the freewheel body. This in turn features 6 pawls, which are offset in 2 groups. In this way, 3 pawls engage at any moment, providing overall 66 points of engagement for quick response at all times. To ensure easy maintenance, the freewheel body is also designed so that the pawls remain in place during disassembly.
