To lubricate really well, a good grease needs molecules that flow easily over each other (less drag) and coat the metal surface thoroughly and evenly to prevent metal on metal contact (which leads to parts wear). Ester is not a female, it is a variant of synthetic oil! Esters are more expensive than pure synthetic oils because the ingredients are all derived from natural sources and then have to be synthesized in much smaller quantities than regular synthetic oil.
